Private Investigations and Personal Security/UK PI career

After a long illness(since recovered), I am now considering a career as a PI, either in the UK or Austria - I'm 40. I gather that laws are similiar(?) for both countries and intend to do a long-distance course for PIs before either joining a firm or going it alone. There are 3 such courses offered by 3 schools in the UK. all 3 staffed by numerous current PIs. Here is the list of the 3 relevant websites. I did check and there are now some SIA requirements enforced by UK law which at least 2 of the 3 UK-based schools mention they include in their course. Other than that, UK laws do not seem to prevent people becoming PIs, that is, there is no US-like requirement to have been in the military or police-force etc., so my lack of experience in such fields is no bar to becoming a PI.

Anyway, I would like for you to give your verdict on the 3 following UK websites/companies re their possibilities/eventual likelihood of employment etc.:-

There's also a US-based international PI course I might consider doing as well:-

Any advice appreciated, thanks!

I dont know enough about these companies nor do I have any experience with these type of organizations outside of the united states. However, I can give you a few guidelines to use when consider this companies.
1-Determine which country and or state you would like to establish your investigation company in first.
2-Determine what the qualification are for each each state or country if licensing is a requirement to establish a business.
3-Contact each organization and ask for a list of graduates and 3 recommendation who have recently passed their course and are working within the industry.
4-Determine if this organization and the state that you plan to start your business in has adequate work and can provide employment opportunities in the future prior to you starting your own business. IE-Employers willing to hire you before you are licensed and start own business.\
5-Compare apple to apples. Look at bang for your buck, but if you pay more to get more than having more may be beneficial.
6-A lot of these companies try to prepare you for starting your business, which is good. However, you must have an idea what type of services you want to specialize in and see if these organization provide training in that area. IE-Insurance fraud investigation which can be profitable in the US. Nonetheless, while I think it is important to understand marketing and I really like some of the topics the addresses on their site, I would determine what area of services I might gravitate towards 1st, then identify if there is suitable work & compensation for that service and then pick a school for their secondary services such as marketing and preparing you to one day start you business. If you were in California, it would take you in most case 3 years before you could take the test to become a licensed PI business. So pick the school that will make you the best PI, because it make time a few years before you are in a position mentally & financially to start a business. If you are a good PI, you will always find work.
7-As an aspiring Private Investigator, research is what you will be doing a lot of sooooo.... get to work! lol

Hope that helps!

I enjoy answering questions relating to private & general investigations including but not limited to locates, skip tracing, surveillance, stalking, child custody, criminal defense, civil, corporate security/executive protection, workplace violence/threat assessments, personal security, security surveillance systems and GPS tracking/monitoring products & services. Specifically, I answer questions regarding state laws concerning private investigation practices, as well as the best practices & standard operating procedures used by most reputable private investigative firms. I can give you state & federal references when dealing with issues that may or may not be legal in your specific state. IE- Some states have laws which conflict with federal law such as California's "2 party law" for surreptitious audio recordings. I offer tips on how to identify the right investigative firm for your particular case and what type of questions that investigative firm should be asking you. QUICK TIP #1: NEVER hire a Private Investigative firm that is not concerned about providing you a written contract that specifically outlines the agreement and responsibilities of both parties!!! A written contract should be expected & demanded by both investigative firm and client 95% of the time. I have numerous resources and will point you in the right direction. Whether it is hiring an attorney, a specialist or offering tips on conducting LEGAL investigations & research yourself. I offer advise regarding the kind of info you can legally obtain, what's not legal for you to obtain and when you need to hire a professional to obtain the info on your behalf. Lastly, I have over 20 yrs of experience as a Security Professional/Consultant and 12+ yrs within the Investigative profession. As the 2009 President of a state Private Investigation Association, I have professional knowledge, experience & established resources that supply me with the most recent legislative issues & industry trends.
