Private Investigations and Personal Security/cameras used in an investigation

Hello, I'm from WI

When are cameras used in an investigation? Or do detectives just

use gps tracking.

         Thank you for your time

You ask two questions:

1. Cameras are used when visual documentation is necessary or to enhance the verbal or written report provided by an investigator. They may also be used to copy records and documents when in macro mode. The use of cameras must be done in a manner that complies with federal and State law. If a video camera, no audio can be recorded unless the person has no legal expectation of privacy such as at a sporting event, or can see the red recording light on the camera itself without question.

2.Using a GPS is not a simple task. Again, ownership of the vehicle, the method of attachment, the method of powering the device, who places it where all must comply with Federal and States laws. Our agency will not attach a GPS to a vehicle for numerous liability issues, however we have no problem in placing a tracking device in a piece of luggage owned by the person who hires us.

Being a private investigator is much more than taking pictures and using GPS devices. A good private investigator can almost always accomplish the client's objectives without the use of physical devices, by relying upon investigative skills. There is always more than one way to solve a problem.
