Question QUESTION: I attended Colin McEwen High School, 23410 Civic Center Way, Malibu, Ca and graduated in 1969. I have asked for 5 months for my transcripts and diploma. The principal Eugene Wilson always says he is too busy. Who can I contact to get this man to help me?
ANSWER: Deborah,
This must be very frustrating. I found that there is an office for the school located in a mall, so I do not know how well organized they are.
If they are open and active, there should be someone responsible for records other than the principal. I would ask for the records office instead of the principal.
Being a private school, there are no public avenues for you. You may also consider writing to them, include a self addressed and stamped envelope.
On second thought, and even though they are not members, I might contact the California Association of Independent Schools for help. They might be willing to contact the school for you. They are at www.CAISCA.org.
You don't mention where you live now; you could also make arrangements to pick them up. I might call and ask for a date that you could pick them up- perhaps that will get the ball rolling.
Best of luck,
Michael

QUESTION: I live in Palm springs which is 3 hours away. I did contact the Board of Educ. who says noone regulates private schools and this one is a business. I have reported to the Better Business Bureau. Do you know if any laws are aspiring to protect us private school ppl?
I still would suggest asking for a date that the transcript can be picked up, to possible jar them into action. Another option is asking again for the transcript, and if they respond that they are too busy, politely inform them that you will be writing to the newspapers and TV studios for coverage of this lack of responsible behavior. (And then do it!)
I might also write to the police, the mayor, the chamber of commerce, the Department of Education, and the governor's office. Although this is not a legal issue, perhaps someone might have the will to contact them on your behalf.
Ultimately, you could call and say that you will take a day off and drive the six hours, they just have to name the date.
