You are here: Experts > Sports > Basketball > Pro Basketball > m.j and all star mvp
Expert: Clint Lewey - 10/14/2009
Question m.j has dominated and proven himself to everybody with 5 nba mvp, 6 nba finals mvp.
now he has only won 3 all star mvp, but in the early 90's 1990-1993 he has not won any all star mvp, why?
he has won the nba mvp, finals mvp, scoring title, but why not the all star mvp?
i know who ever plays the best on the day wins, but the all star is a chance to prove to world how good you are with the "a" list of players. so why would you not want to play at your best?
so from that how can we tell which years were m.j's best and when he was at his prime?
Answer Hi Stylez; This is a tough question. I've pondered on it and the only thing I can think of is it's hard, even for Jordan, to come up with a 50 point game and everyone else on the "All-Star" team not feel a little irritated about it. Not only is it Jordan's chance to show the world how good he is, but the other players as well. As far as players that really brought it on All Star Sunday was Isiah Thomas. He always put on a show and seemed to really enjoy being out there on those days. To break it down as far as stats go...
The 1990 AS Game: Magic led all scorers and had more rebounds and assists than Jordan that game as well as shot a higher percentage. MJ must have just had an off game that day.
1991 AS Game: Jordan led all scorers but shot a horrid 40% whereas MVP Barkley had 22 rebounds and scored pretty well with 17 pts.
1992 AS Game: The night simply belonged to Magic. He came back for the AS game after a retirement stint, led all scorers, led in assists as well. Oh and that 3 point from the hash with Isiah in his face sealed the deal.
1993 AS Game: Malone shot 60-something percent, had 28 points and Stock chipped in 15 assists as well, Jordan led all scorers with 30, shot kind of iffy and the East lost.
That's as good an explanation I can give. I hope that helps. Jordan was the best ever, but not on every night. He was human, believe it or not...
