Pro Golfing - sprinkler head

Expert: Skip Ward - 4/13/2008

Question
Hi Skip,
A sprinkler head is about 2 yards off the green. My ball lies about 1-2 feet behind that sprinkler. I sak for a drop for interference as i am within one clublength. My opponent says: "no it does not interfere with your stance or swing and you cannot have a drop for 'line'  - you must play it as it lies".
Is that correct?

Answer
Dear Bernard, thanks for the question.  Your opponent is correct I'm afraid.  The proximity of your ball to the sprinkler head is unfortunate, and unfortunately, not relevant.  You must indeed play that shot as it lies.  A tough one, but true.  Good luck, thanks again for asking and remember...

Love the game,
skipper
