Pro Golfing - Caddie Pay

Expert: Skip Ward - 7/23/2005

Question
I believe that caddies are typically paid a percentage of the pro's
earnings, but what about those who caddie for amateurs such a
Wie? How are they paid?
Thanks!

Answer
Dear Ron, thanks for the question.  You are right, typically caddies are paid a percentage, often 10%, and a bonus for finishing in the top 10 is common as well. An amateur usually will come to an agreement with a prospective caddy as to what they will be paid prior to the event without regard to the player's performance or place.  Nothing is set in stone, just whatever the two agree upon.  Keep in mind though, often times it is a family member or friend that does the honor and would likely do it for free, just for the thrill...or perhaps the promise of future earnings!  Good luck and remember...

Love the game,
skipper
