Pro Golfing - Golf balls

Expert: Skip Ward - 7/26/2006

Question
Skip,
Does the general public have access to the "same exact" balls that the pros use?

I.E.
I have heard that Tiger uses a Nike prototype that is only used by him.
Can we buy the same Pro V1 that the pros hit?
ect.

Thanks and have a greatday!

Answer
Dear Patrick, thanks for the question.  Generally speaking the non-professional does indeed have access to the same balls as the Pro's.  However in the case of a prototype, that isn't always the case.  Very often Pros will test a product that will eventually be in public but only after the pros pass along their approval.  Having said that about balls, it is NOT the same with clubs.  The particular clubs the average players has access to is nothing near the clubs that the pros play, even by the same name.  Every club they hit is custom tailored from the weight, shaft, grip, and even shape of the head.  Good luck and remember...

Love the game,
skipper
