About Turnbuckle Guy
Expertise
Been a wrestling fan most of my life... especially knowledgable on the true legends of wrestling... Gordon Solie-NWA era, especially... Still remember when Roddy Piper was "just an announcer," if that tells you anything... Mr. Wrestling II, The Spoiler, Pak Song, Magnum TA, Dory Funk, Jr., I saw them all... and have seen pretty much everything since... If the name "Lance Russell" means anything to you, give me a shot...

Experience
Just a few years watching Gordon Solie call matches... and Lance Russell, and Jim Ross, and David Crockett, and Tony Schiavone... and Lord Alfred Hayes, Gorilla Monsoon, Jesse Ventura, etc...

Pro Wrestling - Late 70's, early 80's

Expert: Turnbuckle Guy - 12/30/2008

Question
Just a few questions:

1)   Who came up with the idea of the four horsemen?
2)   Who actually booked and owned Georgia Championship Wrestling in the late 70s until it was bought by JCP?
3)   Why didn’t Austin Idol never make it big?  He had all the mic skills, charisma, etc.
4)   Was Tommy Rich just too lazy to take care of his body?
5)   Who are some of the legit toughest wrestlers ever or at least from the late 70s, 80s, etc?

Thanks

Answer
Hi, Tony...

1) according to Ric Flair's documentary on the newest DVD box set, it was Arn Anderson who came up with the name "4 Horsemen" and Ole's idea to group together as a team...

2) GA Championship Wrestling was part of the NWA.. no idea who booked them...

3) I don't know why Austin Idol never really hit it bigger.. used to love his feud with kevin Sullivan...

4) Basically, yeah, Wildfire just thought he could run on charisma alone, and let everything else be damned...

5) For my money, the toughest around was Bruiser Brody... Ric Flair was tough just for his ring savvy and his whole attitude.. Nikita Koloff, The Road Warriors, Dusty, all those guys were gladiators, man... fighting sometimes 7 days a week, travelling all night to get to the next town... amazing stuff..
