Question How much did Brett the Hitman Hart make during his career and at his peak? I have heard that he was ripped off during his career and that some decisions he has made now are for financial reasons (e.g. hall of fame, acting, etc.). Is this true?
Answer Bret was born into a reasonably wealthy family. Stu was the primary owner of Stampede Wrestling. Bret is part owner of the Calgary Hitmen (a minor league hockey team) and he also writes a column for the Calgary Sun. On the negative, he signed a big contract with WCW, but there was no guarantee, so when he got hurt and was unable to wrestle, there went his dough. Also, he is divorced from his wife and the mother of his four children, so there is alimony and child support considerations, plus the medical bills from his 2002 stroke.
I do not know how much money he made, but I do know that he made a lot while he was the centerpiece of the WWF and with WCW, but he lost quite a bit with the divorce and the stroke. With the hockey team, the sale of Stampede, the DVD, his biography, his column and his acting, he is making a good living without having to get his brains any more scrambled that they might already be.
