Question
Gerry Infeld has a batting average of 0.326. What is the probability that he will have 2 hits in his next 5 times at bat? Give your answer correct to 3 decimal places.

Thankyou very much for your help

Answer
The total number of hits out of his next 5 trials has the binomial distribution with the probability of success 0.326. Probability that he will have 2 hits in his next 5 times at bat is the binomial coefficient ‘5 choose 2’* 0.326^2*(1-0.326)^3=0.325.

Note: the binomial coefficient ‘5 chooses 2’ is the number of 2-combinations from 5 elements. We have assumed that the 5 trials are independent and identical trials. ‘Identical trials’ means that the probability of hit is the same for each trial. ‘Independent trials’ means that the results of trials are independent random variable.
