Problems with Friends - racist/violent friends

Question
Hey. My names Sarah and I'm 16. I have a pretty large and chill group of friends. I love everything about them except there racism and violence. They always say they want to fight someone, and they always have something to say about jews. This is especially bothersome to me because my family is jewish. Although I don't believe in religion, and therefore I am not jewish, I still can't stand sitting next to them when they are saying hateful things about my families people.

The racism doesn't just stop at name calling. They were showing off the other day how they all carved into there skin the nazi sign on there chests. It was so sick and twisted I walked out.

I don't know how to change there ways of thinking. There all just so stupid, and they don't understand how diversity makes life beautiful. They also call themselves christian, which doesn't make sense to me because wasn't Jesus jewish? I bet none of them even understand why they cut the nazi sign into themselves. I bet one of them had those beliefs so they all decided to be dicks and follow that one person. I wish my friends were not so damn stupid.

How can i knock sense into there idiotic minds?

Answer
Oh wow. First I am Jewish and while not religious, by birth I am Jewish and to the Jewish world I am Jewish. I'm just like you, once a Jew, always, in theory. That's as long as I don't believe in another religion. Now onto your topic.

First Happy New Year. Hope you had a good Yom Kippur. Even though you may not be religious, I'm assuming you did something for these holidays.

Racism is a serious thing. People scapegoat Jewish people for a number of reasons. If someone who is suppose to be your friend is insulting your history, than they are insulting you. Even if you are not close to your Jewish roots, they are insulting you.

Here is one of my favorite Jewish Proverbs:

"A bird that you set free may be caught again, but a word that escapes your lips will not return. "

The words they say are out there. They are directly to you, and me. They are to our people. It's a shame they are doing such.

This is my coworker. He's on vacation right now, but I would like you to talk to him:

Jesus was Jewish, but it doesn't matter. I've seen it before and I'll see it again. People love scapegoats Jewish people.  I would stay away from people who are racist, but if you want to try to change them, be very careful.

One advice that was given to me was this regarding a similar issue:

"If they ever get sick, tell them they can't use all the Jewish medicines that were created. If they use a cell phone, tell them to put it down. The cell phone some of it was created in Israel. The list goes on.

Do they use Facebook? Zuckerberg created it. The list goes on like I said." The issue with this is some counter those statements and get more upset Jewish people have been successful.

Can I ask your state?

Please ask follow ups.

P.S. Self cutting is a serious issue. You must tell a trusted teacher about this and have them get those people help. If your life is in danger contact the police.
