Question
how do you cancel your aim screen name so that it cant be used anymore?  I just canceled aim and i want to delete my old aim screen name...

Answer
HI Marissa:

I recommend you save or print a copy of this e-mail for future reference.

Currently, there is no way to unsubscribe from AIM. If you wish to discontinue using AIM, you can uninstall the program from your computer.

To delete your AIM Screen name - On the AIM Sign On Screen, highlight the screen name, press the DELETE key on your keyboard, then click YES.

This will remove the screen name from the software but not from the Instant Messenger service. The Instant Messenger registration server keeps the screen name reserved for 12 months. After 12 months time, the AIM system will release the screen name you deleted for re-use by America Online and Instant Messenger members.

To uninstall the AIM software from the Windows operating system, please follow the steps below:
   1. Click START, then click CONTROL PANEL.

Note: To successfully uninstall AIM on a Windows XP machine, you should have Administrative Access to that computer. If not, please contact your system Administrator. If yes, proceed with the uninstall steps.

   2. Double-click ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS.
   3. Select AOL INSTANT MESSENGER,  then click ADD/REMOVE.

Note: In Windows 98/Me/2000, click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

   4. After removing AIM, you will need to restart your computer.

If I can be of more help please let me know
