I have had a simular issue with Ambien I took it then blacked out, drank on it found my self 30 miles away from home with no memory of how I got there. I crashed my car then reported it stolen. I got off easy because I was only charged with false reporting. But I do understand that Ambien is the cause and the law does not have any mercy on the fact that this medication should be illegal. There will be lawsuits we should join in on them because ambien needs to be taken off the market. There should be no DUI for you I would fight it.

Dear Paul,
This is nearly an identical situation to my own experience this last March. After driving for fifteen straight hours I took some ambien at approx. 3 a.m. Apparently I woke up at around 7, ate, got dressed and drove to work. I had a single car accident on the highway. I have no idea how I even made it that far. Of course I had no alcohol (as my blood alcohol level showed) and I only remember tiny bits and pieces of the entire morning. I am very fortunate that no one was hurt and that I have been able to keep my license. This was extremely costly (my attorney, court costs, other costs associated, time) but it could have ended much, much worse. I am taking court ordered classes on DUI but this is pretty worthless for me. I do not drink nor have been in any other legal situation in my life. Those in my class are multiple offenders. Believe me, no one needs to ever tell me to beware of the side effects of this dangerous medication.
