QuestionI'm designing a Website which will have a link that can be downloaded onto a computer in order to aid an organization to perform a business task. Is there anything that I can copyright or patent to protect any portion of this app. or process. Please fill in the blanks if you get the jist of what I may not be explaining correctly.
AnswerHello Bob ...
Thanks for the eMail and question .....
I would recommend a number of things that you can do:
1) In the script code of the application place a copyright statement and a patent applied for statement if you have applied.
2) You can also place a watermark within the page for further identification.
3) You can also use services that constantly search out for copyright violation. There are a number of them freely available.
4) Of course you can have the potential client agree to not to copy at the initial download stage like a number of software and new apps do but that definitely slows things down but it does give you some sort of piracy control ....
