About James R Carrier
Expertise
I'm an insurance adjuster, I'm able to answer questions regarding coverage, damage valuation, or anything to do with property & casualty in the State of Michigan. In other states I can answer general questions but insurance policies are written slightly different depending on insurance law in a particular state. Most questions however I would be able to answer or have the ability to get an answer.

Experience
20 years as a licsensed adjuster, handling 1000's of homeowners claims in Michigan, and Louisiana (Hurricane Katrina).

Education/Credentials
Business degree with an emphasis on accounting from Arizona State University, graduating in the Fall of 1984.

Property & Casualty Insurance - Ceiling damage due to storms

Expert: James R Carrier - 10/22/2009

Question
Hello Mr. Carrier,

I'm located in Florida and I own a rental property (a triplex) that suffered water damages due to some heavy rains back in March 2009, I never filed a claim because I thought insurance companies only paid for roof %26 ceiling damages if it was caused by hurricanes, but someone told me that I was wrong.  If that is true, do you think I can still file a claim, even thought 7 months have pass?
Thank you

Answer
Lindsay,

One of the requirements of a policy is to notify your insurance carrier in a timely fashion. There is no certain time that is considered timely, so I certainly would make a claim. Your damage is definitely covered so that is not an issue, you should consider hiring a Public Adjuster to handle your claim. If you happen to be a resident of Michigan I can handle your claim, or I would be happy to research your area of Florida and find a Public Adjuster in your locale that is competent. Contact me at jimsbook@hotmail.com if you would like to discuss further.

Good Luck,
Jim C
