Expert: Jay K. Williams, AAI, AIP, CIC, CRM - 11/2/2009
Question WE have a multifamily floating dock attached to a community common waterfront lot. It is an aluminum structure dock valued at $60000. We are looking for a comprehensive coverage (ie vandalism, storm damage etc.)policy. Also would be interested in a liability rider. What options do we have?
Answer Hey Mike,
Liability should be the least of your coverage worries. Liability coverage for Homeowners Associations is usually readily available.
Property coverage may be another issue. Some companies are not interested in writing structures that are constructed over water. Also, some perils may be limited...such as wind coverage.
Your best bet is to contact a couple local independent agents. They represent multiple companies and will be able to shop your coverage to get the best coverage at the best price.
I wish you luck. Let me know if you have more questions.
