Property & Casualty Insurance - Start a business in P&C insurance

Expert: Thom Brooks - 11/3/2009

Question
After taking the exam and passing what would be the first step in getting into the business?  Also is there a lot involved in your own insurance agency

Answer
Dennis, hello!

Your questiion is too complicated to speak in one paragraph.  You have to get a company to sponsor you.  Most companies will not do so unless you would be captive to them, or bring a book of business to them already established.  So, you need to contact the agencies near your area.  They will give you the requirements.  You many consider buying an established agency.  If you start one from Scratch, you would most likely not get the best companies to appoint you.  There are companies like ALFA, Farmers, and Progressive that you can contact.
They will tell you what they want out of a new agent.

Take care,

Thom Brooks
