Question
Greetings - I am looking to change homeowners insurance companies and I am having difficulty locating research information for comparision.  I have a Citizens policy and have been quoted for United Property & Casualty Ins. Co. for a third of the cost with significantly better coverage.  In researching United, I have only found that there is insufficiant data to rate the company.  Do you know what their financial strength is and what kind of time frame so they normally pay out claims?  Do you have any recommendations on how to find a reputable and financially secure insurance company in Florida that has competitve rates, but also pays out claims within a reasonable timeframe?  I'm not asking for too much, am I?  Many thanks for any insight you can provide.

Answer
Hi Karen,
Your agent usually has 4-6 companies he can write for, if he is a reliable agant of a reliable co, he can put you with the best company based on year of your home. A.M. BEST does ratings,United is an o.k. company. How fast do they pay claims??? If a catastrophe hits, none of the companies will pay quickly. I wouldgo with the least expensive because if they go out of business, Citizens will ahve to pick you up anyway. Let me know if you have any other questions
