Property & Casualty Insurance - Water damage claim

Expert: steve zimmerman - 7/29/2009

Question
We have a pending claim with our insurance company and I am becoming more and more frustrated everyday.  While surveying the damage from a water back-up into my entire 1st floor, mold was discovered in the kitchen.  The mold remediation was covered up to $5000, however, to get the mold out my kitchen had to be torn apart almost completely.  The mold was cleaned up for $2850, which is covered.  Now my kitchen needs to be reassembled.  My estimates to do that exceed there "so called" mold remediation limits.  I need new countertops, my cabinets need repairing and my appliances need to be reinstall.  I don't understand why this is not included in the claim and is there something that I can do to get them to cover the cost of the repairs.  Insurance company if 1st American Property and Casualty.  I have the balance of $2150 in the mold claim to get my kitchen back to normal.  My cabinet reinstall is $1400 and the counters are $2500.  What can I do.

Answer
talk to your adjuster, explian what you told me, make sure you at least have a second estimate, if they will not agree to up the payout, contact a public adjuster and let them handle the claim. You are entitled to get everything to normal...good luck
