Property & Casualty Insurance - financial integrity

Question
I am about to send a rather large check to United Property & Casualty Ins. Co, ($4, 800) for a 1 year HO policy.  I can find very little info on the company and am a bit skeptical about the absence of info.  I read of one family which had trouble getting a refund and know that one problem does not make a company undesirable.  But is this one case the tip of the iceberg?  What is the word on the "street" about this company?  Are they financially sound?  Are they reliable?  Do they have integrity or are they just another insurance company whose business model consists of collecting premiums and not paying claims?  Seems like I should be paying the premiums on an extended payment plan just in case they go bust.  What are your professional thoughts on this subject and do you have any relationship with United which would alter your response?  Thank you very much for your input.  Robert

Answer
Hi Robert,
They are iffy at best......I think they will pay if you have a claim but as a lot of companies their stability is questionable. If you cannot find another company in the price range, i would recommend you make payments, i would not advise paying the year upfront. Good luck!
