Question
Does anyone think that amputees should be allowed to play professional sports?

Answer
That is a tricky question.

On one hand, an amputee should be allowed to play in professional sports (the literal definition: getting paid to play sports) and do at this time (Running, Cycling, Motorcycling, Surfing, Golf).  On the other hand, there are several sports that a prosthesis could not handle(i.e. NFL, NHL, NBA, WNBA, MLB(possibly a pitcher in the AL), Worlds Strongest Man).  At this point in time i do not believe that a prosthesis can be made to take the demands of certain professional sports.  Even if the patient was in iron-man condition with the strength of the worlds strongest man, the prosthesis could not be made to last nor comfortable enough to wear 24 hrs a day/ 7 days a week(that is what a professional career would require).  In order to be at the top level such as a professional, the individual would have eat, breath, and live sports.  Very little down time with weights, film, interviews, travel, etc.

This is just strictly my personal observation regarding prosthetics.  There will be a time when hardware can be matched to human will.  At this point in time it is not possible.  AND IF I AM WRONG PLEASE CORRECT ME.

I hope this was what you were looking for.  SA
