Question My son lost half of his left leg due to developing Nucrosis as a result from a motorcycle accident Nov. 2008. Today he was told that he could wear boots that only zip from the back as the foot of the prosthetic he will be getting won't bend. I'm searching on the internet to find out where I can order him boots as he was/is a welder and does plan to ride motorcycles again so he needs a good sturdy boot probably with a steel toe. Can you send me a link or company where I can find what he needs please? thanks,
Answer Your local tack and feed shop should have these style boots. Also, around here we have several western wear stores as well as tractor supply co. You should be able to find the boots at one of those stores.
For the most part "most" prosthetic feet do have issues fitting inside a boot. However, i have not had a situation when we could not get the feet inside the shoe. A good leather shoe will stretch and allow for some give.
There are also side zip boots available that may help with your son's foot issue.
Google key word search: posterior zippered boot or REDWING BOOTS, MINNETONKA BOOTS, DOC MARTIN. I believe that HARLEY DAVIDSON also makes boots.
