Question I am a 27 year old female with bipolar I and was recently diagnosed with ADD. Well, 10 months ago. Started at 36mg Concerta but it started wearing off just 7 hours later. I am currently on 54mg of Concerta and have been for over 4 months. I take it around 10am everyday. I have been hyperfocused, like I am on speed and it feels like it is increasing as days pass. I see my psychiatrist next Mon but I would like your input on medication for ADD.
I feel relief from concentration the first 2 hours after taking the pill but as the day passes I feel worse. I wonder if the slow releasing portion of the pill is too much or not enough medicine.
In your experience as an M.D. do see better responses from slow release stimulant ADD medication or the type taken multiple times a day?
Answer Multiple times per day IF (and a very big IF) the dosages are taken ON TIME (no, "I was in a meeting and I did not want to take a pill in the meeting so I delayed it 45 minutes"). Most people cannot keep to this schedule, so the extended release, as a practical matter, works better.
