Psychiatry & Psychology--General/Memory Reconstruction

Question
I just read something about memory reconstruction. It says that our memories are reconstructed every time we think of them and other events that occur after the original event can change the memory of the original event. Is this true? I'm really curious, please tell me more about it. How does it happen?

Answer
I think this is true. One cannot rely on memory alone because memory of actual past events are affected by our current emotions, and so we may unintentionally add, project, or impose imagined elements formed by emotions, to the memory. One's memory of an event can be corroborated or tested by the memory of others who were present. One's identity and ego preservation may also influence the accuracy of a memory. Interesting question.
