Psychiatry & Psychology--General/run-away train

My 8-year-old son with ADHD is like a run-away train: sometimes if you correct him for a behavior--even if it's a gentle "please don't do that"--he will repeat the same negative behavior and then keep increasing the problem. This morning, I kindly helped him put his shirt on and he playfully hit my face. I told him that was unpleasant and that he needed to do the rest himself and come down for breakfast. He did that, but then started picking on his sister. We played a game to distract him from his mood on our way to school, but then suddenly got angry (or pretended to get angry) at a minor problem, and he hit and kicked me. I told him he wouldn't have screentime this week, but he replied he didn't care and said he hated me and kept up the negative attitude. Finally, I left him at school, hoping that the change of scene would snap him out of it. These kinds of episodes happen once or twice a week. Do you have any advice on how to deal with them?

You may wish to read up on Oppositional Defiant Disorder. I, personally, reject this diagnosis, but most mental health professionals (and the diagnostic and Statistical Manual) accept it: (Conduct Disorder)

Take care there.
