Question
Hi. I was hoping you could help me answer a few questions-

What would be the emotional reactions of someone with OCD?

What would be the possible reactions from other people (such as family, friends and colleagues) to people with OCD?

Thank you very much!

Answer
People with OCD may have the same emotions as anyone else only they may be more easily frustrated and more angry than the average person.  Or they may have a blunted emotions.  You might say something that you would expect an angry reaction and get no reaction.  The reaction of family and friends can range from thinking the person is odd or wierd to misunderstanding the illness completely and thinking they are looking for attention.  They may also think the person has lost touch with reality when they have not at all.  They may not understand that it is obvious to them that nothing is wrong and yet they find it impossible to understand the person having continual doubt about something.  They may be annoyed that the person keeps askking the same question over and over again.  It is like the person with OCD never gets the message so they keep doubt whether they did something or locked something.  The people around them get exasperated .
