Psychiatry & Psychology--General - codependency vs. enabling

Expert: Kathleen Sullivan - 4/15/2004

Question
What is the difference between codependency and enabling?

Answer
They are 2 different issues.  Codependency is when you are suffering to support someone else's dependency, you are addicted to their dependency.  Enabling is when you are helping them with their dependency.  This can be done many ways.  You may want to check out the bookstore to learn more about these topics.
