Question How do I center text between 2 guides?
Answer To set text horizontally centered in Illy CS, I:
1. Pull my guidelines into place.
2. Use the type tool and create a type box where the left is at the left guideline and the right side is at the right guideline that you want. You will know you are dead-on because the type tool cursor will change color when you're directly over the guidelines. The middle of my type tool cursor flashes red. You can also adjust the position of the text box after the fact.
3. Type in your text.
4. Then go to WINDOW/TYPE/PARAGRAPH and choose the "center" option which is along the top, where you'll see little lines representing text placement: flush left, center, flush right, justified and so on. Make sure the text box is "active" (click on it) before clicking the center option.
Another way to ensure text is 100% centered on a template or artboard, is to first change the text to outlines (so you are not dealing with leading and spacing, vertically)by choosing TYPE/CREATE OUTLINES. Then go to WINDOW/ALIGN. Now, if you want to line two or more elements, just click on them all (hold the shift key down on a PC) and choose the alignment formatting you want. If you want it all to align to the template or artboard, then click on the little arrow on the upper right of the align box, and a flyout will appear — choose ALIGN TO ARTBOARD. If you don't want everything to shift position on the artboard, then make sure that option does not have a check mark beside it.
