Question
Hi Nancy I am moving to PR with my husband who is in the US Coast Guard. We will be arriving the 1st of August, he is stationed at Sector San Juan. I am currently a registered nurse here in the states and wanted to know if you had any suggestions on where to look for a job. I know little spanish so would like a place that would take either english or spanish.  I am in the process of learning spanish so I am trying. I am very excited about this move just a little concerned about finding a job over there.

Answer
Hola, Misty.
Well, we will be neighbors then!  I live next to the Coast Guard facilities at Old San Juan.
If you are considering working as a nurse, probably it won' be in Old San Juan, as there are no hospital or physicians in that specific area.  You could consider checking for available nursing positions in Condado or Santurce, which are less than 10 minutes by car from Old San Juan.
If you are willing to consider other kind of jobs, there are several hotels in Old San Juan, many stores, museums, many restaurants, governmental offices, etc. , where you can just walk by and check what kind of personnel they are looking for.  As you will be living at a walking distance, that would be very convenient for you and for the employer.
With your interest, you will learn Spanish in a couple of months.
Welcome to Puerto Rico.  I will see you any morning at Café Manolín, or during lunch hours at Mojito's.  :)
Saludos, :)
Nancy
