Answer Hola, Kim.
My suggestion for you is to first consider seriously all the pros and cons of moving to the Island. It is a good idea that you could stay with your mother in law while your husband get a new job and you all get used to the new environment.
But then, Kim, in your case I would also consider some other details. The unemployment rate in the Island is high, and that could be important for your husband getting a new job. In addition, salaries in Puerto Rico could be considerably lower to what he is used to. You must find a new school for your kids, you will need a car, actual economical situation is not the best, prices are going higher every day (gas, food, electricity, water, cable TV), - could be a drastic change for you and your family.
You know exactly which is your situation and we must always make decisions that affect our families. Talk with your husband and decide what is better for you all. When you consider relocating, it would be advisable to ensure first a job and you must count with enough money to be able to cover not only the related expenses, but also cover an estimated expense budget for the first 4 to 6 months.
We have been all badly hit by the present economical situation, where you live, where I live and many other countries worldwide. We must be careful using the money we have available, so we must work with new family budgets, and we must also consider seriously leaving our present jobs.
If you feel I can help you more, just let me know.
Saludos,
Nancy
