Puerto Rico - Searching for birth date

Expert: Nancy Torres - 11/3/2009

Question
Nancy,
I'm searching for the birth date of a friend's mother. Her name is Julia Mercedez Sanchez Sanchez Santos. She was born in Aguada. My friend is 72 years old and would like to know something about her mother, so her mother could have been born 90-100 years ago. This person married Ricardo Sotero Santos. Apparently the baptism took place in the Catholic Church in the city center. Where might I be able to find this information, or make a phone call to help my friend?

Answer
Hola, RJ.
You should start your search by calling the Demographic Registry Office in Puerto Rico:
Registro Demográfico
171 Quisqueya St
Hato Rey Puerto Rico 00917
(787) 767-9120 exts. 2402, 2406, 2415

But, as you friend's mother was born in Aguada, try contacting the municipality office there and inquire about your case:
http://www.gobierno.pr/GPRPortal/StandAlone/MunicipalityInformation.aspx?Filter=...

In relation to search in the Catholic Church, I found the following link and thought that it could be of help:
http://www.preb.com/documentos/aguada/libpagda.htm

Buena suerte.
Saludos desde Puerto Rico,
Nancy
