Question
Jared,
hola que tal? I am currently finishing my TEFL certificate in Spain, however, I am a US resident. I have traveled to Puerto Rico a ridiculous amount of times and absolutely am in love with it. (yes, I have seen the bad areas as well and I hang out in the local areas and yes I still love it) However, I'm trying to find work, preferably in a private school to teach English to kids, starting from kindergarten up to 12 years of age. Although, I am open to other age groups and teaching adults as well.

Please help???? I need advice, I found a couple schools, some in San Juan, one in Bayamon. I haven't heard responses yet....any advice? Would it be easier to just go there?

Answer
Lana,

I would suggest to keep contacting them until you get a NO answer.  The persistence may just work.  Also, I would suggest contacting the Department of Education:

http://www.de.gobierno.pr/

since they may have a list of private schools.  The website www.superpagespr.com should provide a good list of schools for you to contact as well.

The magazine www.buscandopr.com may also be able to help you out if you contact them.

Just from memory I can think of The Baldwin School, American Military Academy, San Ignacio, Robinson School and St. John's, all private.

Finally, you should probably also keep in mind that the economy in Puerto Rico is suffering more than most countries.  There are hundreds of teachers that were just laid off a week ago from the public school system.  While most probably are not bilingual, some are and so that may affect the job market as well.

Good luck,
