Question Hi,
Jared, I was born in Adjuntas and i left at the age of 10.
For the past year I've been thinking of moving back. At fist i thought it was going to happen years down the road, but all I do all day is think of being in Adjuntas Puerto Rico and having the live my father had as a farmer
Question.
How is the farming industry?
What is a good crop to farm?
Would i be better off in a different field, and if so what other field would be good?
My father past away when I was 11 years old, he left me and my brothers about six acres of land.
Answer Anthony,
The farming industry has been in the press quite a bit recently. Locally, people are worried that 85% of of Puerto Rico's food is now imported so there has been a lot of focus in the press on improving this.
One of the "hottest" industries right now is high-end coffee. Puerto Rican coffees, such as the Encantos brand, have been receiving international press about their quality, success and growth.
I would suggest reading some of the local press on pages like:
Also, contact the Adjuntas Municipality directly at www.adjuntaspr.com to ask them about information.
Your first contact should be with the Economic Development Bank, a government entity that works to stimulate business here. The webiste is http://www.bdepr.org. I know that they have incentives and help for businesses in the agriculture industry, so they should be able to answer many of your questions, and give you proper contacts to ask further.
I would suggest researching this a little more, before deciding to look at a different field, since the economy here is suffering and the general economic outlook is poor.
