Question Dear Jared,
My wife and I will be coming off a cruise on Nov 1 at the PanAm pier and will be spending four days in PR before flying home on the 5th. Are any of the auto rental agencies at/near the pier and/or will they pick us up? We're looking for a small quiet retreat, preferably on a beach, at a reasonable price. Am I dreaming, or can you tell me of such a place? Thanks in advance for your help. Peace, Bob
Answer Hello Bob,
About the rental cars, I'm not really sure if they pick up their customers at the cruise ships or not. If you check with them directly they can let you know. Here in PR there are all the typical rental agencies: Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, etc. There are also a couple locals:

Even if none of the rental agencies will pick you up, there are taxis that can quickly take you to any of the rental companies. Also, check to see if any of the rental companies have satellite offices in Old San Juan, since that would be your closest option.
About where to stay, I love a place called Hosteria del Mar (www.hosteriadelmarpr.com), in Ocean Park (a section of San Juan). The rooms are extremely simple, but the hotel is literally on the beach, with a great restaurant. You should be able to relax there.
Also, outside of San Juan, about 2-3 hours away, if you stay somewhere in Rincon, Aguadilla or Isabela, you will definitely get everything you want to relax. Check out options at www.gotopuertorico.com
