Puerto Rico - where to stay

Expert: Jared Romey - 7/27/2009

Question
My family of 5 will be visiting Puerto Rico in December.  I am renting an apartment in Condado for 7 days. My question is what other area would you recommend that we visit and rent an apartment in.  We like nice beaches, activites and will be renting a car.
Thanks

Answer
Wendi,

Are you looking for areas outside of San Juan to also spend a few days visiting, or other options within San Juan??

Outside of San Juan, I would suggest Rincon, or Aguadilla, both of which are fun areas, and have numerous beaches nearby (Crash Boat, Jobos, Boqueron, etc.).  You could also look at Guanica, where you could spend the day at Gilligan's or Ballena, both small beaches that are reached by boat (there's a cheap shuttle).

In San Juan, beach options other than Condado are Ocean Park and Isla Verde.  Both these beaches are actually better than Condado, because it is safer to swim at these (less rocks, weaker currents).  Ocean Park may be reached from Condado by walking, depending on which end of Condado you will be staying in.

Another fun option, would be Old San Juan, which doesn't have much for beaches, but is a fun place to spend a day or two exploring.  It is only about a 15 minute drive from Condado.

The website www.gotopuertorico.com will give you some other ideas.

Enjoy the trip,
