Expert: Vicki Dressler Date: 6/18/2008 Subject: Are Black Pugs more aggressive than Fawn Pugs
Question My wife and I are thinking about buying a black pug puppy. But we have some hesitation, first a breeder told us that her experience has been black pugs can be very aggressive towards other dogs, and second some friends of ours have a black and fawn pug but recently had to give the black pug away due to her aggressive behavior towards the male fawn pug. I cannot find anywhere on the Internet where they say a black pug is more aggressive than a fawn pug. So is there any truth to a black pug being more aggressive or is it the dog itself. Any help is appreciated.
Answer Fawns will fight also. Keep in mind pugs are like two year olds in fur coats. They will fight over air, toys, food, mom or dads lap. Pugs are the best breed out there. They are affectionate, funny, playfull, can be couch potatoes...just the perfect best friend ever.
Good question. The answer is blacks are different in temperament then fawns. They can be more aggressive but it depends on the pug. Most of our blacks are love muffins, like the fawns but if there is a rumble, the blacks jump right in and go for blood.
Would this keep me from getting a black, heck no. The blacks are my favorite. Right now I have ten fawns and four blacks. I just keep an eye on them and de-escalate when the snarlies begin.
