Question I have a 4 month old male pug. He is showing signs of serious aggression, biting until he breaks the skin and becoming more aggressive when put in a "time out" in his crate. Overall he is a very loveable dog but for an hour or 2 a night he is out of control. The best way I can describe his behavior is like a pitt bull. I have tried replacement behaviors such as putting a toy in his mouth but he will put it down and continue trying to bite me. I love my Oliver dearly and do not want this to get worse and have him really hurt someone. Please Help!-Erin
Answer I am not sure why he is being aggressive. How many hours a day is he crated?
The next time your hand is in his mouth, gently keep his mouth open and extended until it is uncomfortable for him. Keep this posture for a couple of seconds until he learns that it is uncomfortable to have your hand in his mouth.
The other thing you can try is when he is aggressive with you, roll him over on his back and gently but firmly hold him down while YELLING NO!!! Hold him in this position until he stops struggliing. I suspect he is trying to be the alpha when you should be the alpha.
