I'm happy to help you with suggesting bands to listen to, or resolving questions about the history of punk. I end up telling most people to listen to the Velvet Underground - definitely check them out of you haven't yet.

Punk Rock - Difference between hardcore punk and punk rock

Expert: Caleb - 12/4/2008

Question
I KNOW there is alot of difference between them, but i was wondering if anyone could just really tell it to me.

Answer
All genre names are in the eye of the beholder... you might think a band is hardcore punk while another person thinks they're post-hardcore and another thinks they're screamo and another thinks they're pop punk.  And another person thinks they're jazz... you could probably safely say that person is wrong.

Hardcore punk is one type of punk, generally heavy and often containing screaming.  punk rock is just heavy catchy fast angry/edgy music, and some punk isn't heavy, some isn't catchy, some isn't fast and some isn't angry/edgy... so who knows? "punk" is vague enough... if you add the word "hardcore" that opens up whole new possibilities of vagueness.

Actually i don't know much about hardcore, i like a lot of what you could call "post-hardcore" but havent really gotten into the pure hardcore stuff so much.

They explain genres pretty well and even tell you some of the best bands/albums/songs for a particular genre.
