Abouttimothy sasscer Expertise I can answer question on the first generation of punk (1974-1981), both American (especially Cleveland and NYC) and English, post-punk bands of note from 1981 to present ,
and am quite knowledgable on reggae, especially 1971-1981
Experience 25 years as a musician/producer, avid concertgoer and inastiable reader/researcher on the subject
Publications perfect sound forever (online music zine), contributor to various other sites (Bob Marley, The Fall, Public Image, for example)
Question Do you know where (online) you can get any substantial recordings by the
Neon Boys, and also do you know any good sites where you can download (for
free or otherwise) albums/gigs by bands like: the Neon Boys, the New York
Dolls, the Nipple Erectors, PiL, the Damned Television etc. and also, I
have/adore the album Blank Generation and would like to buy Destiny Street,
but I was wondering if you'd heard it and would recommend it as I haven't
been able to hear it properly?
Answer Ari;
Sorry for the delay. The short answer is not helpful, which is either mp3 blogs or torrents, and of the bands you mentioned I only know of a couple of blogs which have PiL: They were, of course, one of the best, in the Wobble/Levene days:
here is the difficult 3rd album (or 4th, depending on how you count)
What you need is Metal Box/2nd Edition, if you don't have it yet.
And Mr. Quine and Mr. Hell made an indispensable album with Blank Gen., that is for sure, although I only have Destiny Street on cassette: It has some good things (anything with Robert Quine!), but overall I'd say it is one-fifth as good as B/G, but of course tastes are subjective.
I know this hasn't helped much, but if you don't have the above, enjoy them, and I've found torrents before of incredible PiL boots, like the LA Metal Box concert (Career Without A Future?), so they are out there and can be found.
