Question I am English and listen to American punk but thats the problem the only English bands I seem to listen to are either now living in america or dead! I know a few local bands but they are un-original and don't have a scene.
Plus i'm fed up with thrash, emo, indie, garage and glam sucks.
Please help me?
Answer Hey, Pip;
A lot depends on what you consider punk, but for my money there are actually a couple of bands that began in the late 70's that are not only still going, but making remarkable music. They're not all English bands, but the music doesn't care...
Try :
The Fall...as English as they get, even with American musicians
Wire...currently on hiatus, but made some incredible music in 2000..they come back together whenever they feel the need.
The Ex... Dutch, and one of the best bands out there now...after 25 years!
The Mekons, try their album Punk Rock, which is a re-make of songs they did 25 years ago. Remember, Punk is about NOT following trends, its about doing what's right for you...and these bands, especially if you investigate their long history, will turn up some important music.
Hope this helps...if not, write me back and let me know what you didn't like about them..
