AboutCaleb Expertise I'm happy to help you with suggesting bands to listen to, or resolving questions about the history of punk. I end up telling most people to listen to the Velvet Underground - definitely check them out of you haven't yet.
Question I'm really desperate to know what the song "This ain't a scene, it's an arms race" is about. It's a really popular song and I'm very curious about it but I just don't understand it, even when I have analyzed it carefully and a lot of times. It's topping the charts in countries like the USA and Australia. The song is too meterphorical and not obvious to me. I'm utterly confused and I just wanted to know what the main points of the song are. I know the meanings of the big words but still can't grasp the idea of the song. Just need some clarification. Thanks heaps. (I love and enjoy English music greatly and normally, I can understand what the song is about, but this time, I'm lost.)
It is it possible if you can write a short paragraph or one sentence about the song please?
Fall Out Boy This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race Lyrics
"I am an arms dealer.
Fitting you with weapons in the form of words
And I don't really care, which side wins
As long as the room keeps singing
That's just the business I'm in
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race
I'm not a shoulder to cry on, but I digress
I'm a leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm a leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I wrote the gospel of giving up
(You look pretty sinking)
But the real bombshells have already sunk
(pre-madonnas of the gutter)
At night we're painting your trash gold while you sleep
Crashing not like hearts or cars
No, more like p-p-p-parties
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race

Bandwagon's full. Please, catch another
I'm a leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm a leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
All the boys on the dance floor didn't love
And all the girls whose lips couldn't move fast enough
Sing until your lungs give out
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race
(Now you)
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race
(Wear out the groove)
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race
(Sing out loud)
This ain't a scene, it’s a god damn arms race
(Oh, oh)
This ain't a scene, it's a god damn arms race
I'm a leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate
I'm a leading man
And the lies I weave are oh so intricate, oh so intricate"
Answer That's not a punk rock song, but ok.
It seems like he is talking about how words can be like weapons, perhaps talking about people writing hateful songs about each other.
Don't worry if you can't understand songs. A lot of songs are about someone's personal experiences, so only them or someone close to them could understand what it's about. And you don't have to be able to understand a song to appreciate good songwriting and cool lyrics.
