Question Where in the u.k or the rest of thee world has the punk rock scenes at? Like alternative and punk rock?
Answer Hey Amana (Amanda?),
I bet you could definitnely find at least a small alternative/punk rock scene in pretty much any city in the world (probably excluding 3rd world countries). So this includes the UK, london definitely but other areas i can't be 100%. I speak more about the punk rock scene as that's my area, but alternative music is more popular than punk rock so i'd say that has spread even further.
I'm in Australia and the punk rock scene is definitely here, i guess that's kind of due to our obsession with the US. Punk rock is huge in the US as that's where a lot of the evolving of the punk genre has happened - in the form of hardcore, pop punk and emo music for example. Check out www.fatwreck.com - fat wreck chords is probably the most known punk rock label and nearly every band on there is from the US. some areas of the US are known for breeding bands of a certain sound, like california for pop punk and hardcore coming from the east. Useless ID are a band on the Fat wreck chords label, they're from israel, so there's a bit of a punk rock scene there as well.
From the US it's also spread to Canada with bands like sum41 and gob. The scene is also in sweden, with bands like millencolin and no fun at all who are very well known outside of their country and play their own brand of punk rock. killswitch engage are also a big hardcore band from sweden. Germany has a large psychobilly scene. psycholbilly is the coming together of punk and rockabilly music - they have huge psychobilly festivals there. psychobilly is also big in the UK.
The scene is also big in asian countries, especially japan. a lot of the japanese punk bands seem to be very rock influenced. a band called softball are good and i can't exactly remember the name of the band but they're called the strawberries, or something similar. they were discovered by the manager of the sex pistols. Most big punk rock bands also tour to japan because the scene is big there. i know there's at least a small punk scene in singapore, a few years ago i interviewed singapore's only punk band, the moderates.
i hope i've given you at least a rough idea of the geographical spread of punk rock. i'm pretty sure it's nearly everywhere.
