Expertise
I`ve worked in BASIC since the Commodore days and maintain a web site part of which is devoted to helping others with thier problems. I`m proficient in all versions of PowerBASIC but cross over to QuickBASIC and Qbasic frequently.

Subject: Windows Vista and Quickbasic 4.5

Question
I successfully used Quickbasic 4.5 with Windows 98 second edition and then later with Windows XP. But, now with my new computer, running the new Windows Vista, I cannot use its .exe/(self-running executable program) capabilities. Is there a solution to this problem? Or is there a QuickBASIC.EXE 4.5 for Windows Vista on the software market and from whom would I buy this software?

Answer
Hi Noel,

Join the club of happy, satisfied Vista users. Micro$oft just announced that it will extend the life of XP Home another 2 years! That should answer your question. But, if it doesn't.... ;)

I've no idea. I just got a new box myself with Vista Ultimate and am still trying to figure out why some of the Windoze programs I wrote don't work. I've heard that Vista has just about given up on DOS completely.

Unless it's totally necessary for you to stay with Vista I'd suggest dropping back to XP (new service pack out last week) or trying for a dual boot. (No haven't figured that one out yet either but I'm working on it).

 Good luck.
