Subject: Creating a catalog using Quark

Question
I'm creating a 34-page catalog using Quark Express (whatever the latest version is) 7, I think? I created individual Quark files for each section of the catalog, which consists of abut 2-4 pages of catalog items per section.
Initially, I tried creating all 23 pages in one Quark file, it shut down without saving it several times.

My question is, how do I now take all the individual qxd files I've created for each section of my catalog, and put all the pages into one master file without copying and pasting stuff. I am looking for the easiest way to do this, so that I can set up auto page numbers and get the one file to the printers.
I need help!

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Lisa,

You can create a QuarkXPress book to combine all of your individual Quark documents. Inside Quark, go to File > New > Book. Save the book to a location next to your Quark files. Now you should have new palette on your screen, called the book palette. This is basically a mini Quark file. If you happen to close it, just go to file > open and reopen the file that you created. With the book palette, you can add as many Quark files as you want. Once you get all of your documents added and in the correct order you can synchronize the files to make sure they are all use the same styles, colors, etc. If you are using autopage numbers on your masterpage (go to the masterpage and type Cmd-3, Ctrl-3) the documents will all have the correct page numbers. If you want to make a PDF of the entire document, select all of the documents in the book and choose print, next print to the PDF printer (you will need acrobat professional installed). If you don't want a PDF simply collect for output from each document and give the printer everything.

Good luck!

Fritz
