Quark (Mac, not DS9) - Quark File

Expert: James Fritz - 8/29/2009

Question
Hello James, I previously asked a question about converting Quark files to InDesign and you helped me tremendously. Thank you for that! That job was put on the back burner for awhile, but now I am working on it again. My question this time: how can I figure out what version of Quark was used for this file? I've been reading that if it was 3.3 or 4, I should be able to open it with CS2. I can't, so it must have been in a later version. I tried doing a Command I, but it did not give me any Quark info. Is there a way?

Answer
Hi Shelly,

If you own Quark, go to file > open and select the file. Before you click ok, the open dialog window will tell you what version the file is (4.0, 6.0, etc).

Yes, it is true that InDesign can open Quark 3.3 and 4.0 file , but if you have a later version you will have to purchase a plugin. There is a plugin called Q2ID (Quark to InDesign) from a company called Markzware. It is a wonderful plugin and I have used it may times. Since you have an older version of InDesign, you will probably have to contact them to purchase an older version that will work with CS2 since they are probably selling their CS4 version right now.

Good luck!
