About Lux
Expertise
I am fluent in all facets of Quark, and because I am primarily self-taught I never laugh at any questions I get! I have read two Quark manuals from cover to cover (yes, I am a geek) and I use Quark on a professional basis daily. Quark is fairly easy to learn, but more important than "learning enough to get by" is learning what NOT to do! Based on the sloppy and bad client files I work with every day, it is clear that lots of people ("professionals") don`t know what they are doing. I am here to help!

Experience
I work as a graphic designer in the pre-press department of a large printing company. While I can only claim about 3 years of professional experience using Quark, I know all of the ins and outs and am sometimes asked by old timers in the business how to do this or that.

Quark (Mac, not DS9) - To number pages automatically using Master Page

Expert: Lux - 10/15/2004

Question
QuarkXpress 3.31/windows.
Self-taught, beginner level.

I know how to set up so number pages automatically appear (including Facing Pages)using Master Page.

However, I do not know how to set up so the page
number can appear on the very LEFT margin on the left side of the page, and on the very RIGHT margin on the facing page.

Current set up does not work well for either left page or facing/right page. It does work for both.

When one opens a book, there are left and right side pages. I I don't want to have the page number in the center on the bottom of the pages.

Thanks.

Answer
Frankie,

I don't fully understand your question, but it sounds like you don't want to place automatic page numbers along the bottom of your pages.

You can put your automatic page number text box anywhere on your master page, and it will apply to any document page you attach to that master page. It can be top, bottom, side, or anywhere...it doesn't matter. You can also format the page number to any font and type attribute you like, including adding additional text such as the book title.

Again, I am not exactly sure of your problem, so I don't know what else to say.

Lux
