I also would like to know the answer to this, I also saw this movie as a child and would love to see it again.  I can't remember the name or the actors, but I definitely remember the plot.  Very scary at the time.  The reporter is only suppose to be undercover to get a story about deathrow and they play a trick on him.  They tell him his number is up, walk him down and put him in the electric chair and shave his head, hooked him up and threw the switch, and then they are laughing and they take the cover off of his head and he has died of a heart attack.  I would really like to know the name of this movie myself.  It was definitely a movie on TV in the late 70's early 80's.  Thanks.
