Questions about Movies - brokeback mountain ending

Expert: Jason O`Brien - 2/2/2009

Question
hi  iv always been a big fan of heath ledger and when he died last year i suddenly felt a huge desire to watch all of his films, i watched brokeback mountain for the first time a few days ago i was impressed by how good it was, the ending however is a little confusing, at the end, after the visit from his ending, ennis del mar opens a wardrobe and on the door is his shirt with jacks shirt, and a postcard jack sent to him, as he straightens it with his finger he says 'jack, i swear' and i dont know what exactly this means, i thought he may of meant 'jack i swear' to take his ashes to brokeback mountain and scatter them as jack wanted, but im still confused why does he say 'jack i swear' what does it mean? what is he 'swearing to do', and insight would be greatly appreciated

Answer
I don't know this for a certainty, but this has always been my interpretation.  When he says that at the end, looking at the picture and the shirt, he says that as a way of saying "I swear what you did to me has just killed me" essentially ... sort of this exclamation of how much he truly meant to him and how maybe he wishes he could have done things differently.  It's sort of that realization of what power an unfulfilled love can truly do to someone's life.  Anyway, that's always been my interpretation of that final line.
