About Chris Downey
Expertise
My area of expertise is films; specifically, the Golden Age of Cinema the 40`s and 50`s. People like Bette Davis, Jimmy Stewart, Edward G Robinson, Humphrey Bogart, etc. In addition, I have a lot of general information of more recent films (up to present day); and if I don`t know about a film, I can point you in the right direction to look. I would be more than happy to share this knowledge with anyone who might have a question regarding a favourite film or film star.

Questions about Movies - Searching for a couple of older movie titles

Expert: Chris Downey - 8/5/2005

Question
I hope you can help, Im looking for the name of a movie and the only things I remember in the movie are one maybe two children who play the panpipes, they go on a journey to some place, and travel in a hot-air balloon, Im sorry it is very vague, but that is all I really remember, and I think the title has the word far in it; like far far far away or something like that, Thank you. And the other movie (I believe that both of these movies are geared towards children, I remember seeing them in the late 80s when I was about 9 or 10) was a fairy tale movie that interweaved stories of sleeping beauty, the frog prince, and rumplestilskin, and maybe a couple others, it was a weird film, but Im interested in watching it again, Thank you, I appreciate all the help I can get!

Answer
Dear Kari,  thank you for your question, and may I apologise for not answering sooner?

I'm afraid the first movie doesn't ring a bell -- the only thing I know of that's close is a French movie whose title roughly translates as 'Two weeks in a Balloon'.

The second one is very reminiscent of 'The Neverending Story', but I don't think it's that. Another possibility is the 'Blue Bird' - either the 1940 or 1976 versions, which is based on a type of Hansel & Gretl type story line.

Sorry I can't be of more help. I fyou could recall an actor in either movie it would help

Regards

Chris
