About Chris Downey
Expertise
My area of expertise is films; specifically, the Golden Age of Cinema the 40`s and 50`s. People like Bette Davis, Jimmy Stewart, Edward G Robinson, Humphrey Bogart, etc. In addition, I have a lot of general information of more recent films (up to present day); and if I don`t know about a film, I can point you in the right direction to look. I would be more than happy to share this knowledge with anyone who might have a question regarding a favourite film or film star.

Questions about Movies - movie title

Expert: Chris Downey - 7/27/2004

Question
I'm looking for the title of a Sissy Spacek movie, made prior to 1995, that's set in England during WWII. I don't remember much about it except that it had an exterior scene of the English countryside and in the background I noticed what appeared to be a pair of nuclear power tanks (during WWII?!!), which I'm sure was an unintentional oversight on the part of the director. I saw the movie twice, the second time to make sure I saw what I thought I saw, and sure enough, the two big concrete tanks were just over the horizon. I know this must sound pretty trivial to you, but It's been bugging me for years and without the name of the movie, I can't check it out.

Answer
Dear Kay

Thank you for your question.

As far as I can tell, the movie is 'The Glass Harp', 1995. Starred Walter Mattheau, Roddy McDowell, Mary Steenburgen as well as Sissy.

However, it wasn't set in England, but in the Deep South of the USA in the 1940's.

The movie was directed by Matheau's son, Charles.

Regards

Chris
